Weekly Build available - 25 Apr 22
Latest version doesn't include a lot of new exciting features, rather it is an extensive rework of the navigation and AI internals, merging code from a newer codebase and utilising Unity's inbuilt NavMesh AI in 2D using a new extension called NavMeshPlus. It took a lot of mucking around to get it working, but the results are terrific from future development and performance perspectives.
I also reworked the AI quite a bit, cleaning it up and moving a lot of code into more logical classes, removing a bunch of redundant functions that had been replicated. The NPCs are smarter about changing weapons, picking up new clips and guns as necessary, and finding cover to shoot from. They also more reliably recover from issues.
There are big issues like the game not restarting properly after you die and NPCs getting stuck trying to navigate through small areas or around other NPCs but I know how to tackle them and will get a few fixes in next week.
It's a bit of a week off for me, I am away for the next four days, so the next weekly build will be very minor (and I might even skip it entirely and just post a small update of what I get done).
